Community Features County Government Texas county government is generally an extension of state government, focusing on the judicial system, health and welfare issues, law enforcement and road construction. Texas counties have no ordinance making powers other than those specifically and narrowly granted by the state. Gillespie County’s governing body, the Commissioners Court, consists on one member elected at large, the County Judge, and four members, County Commissioners, elected from districts. The Commissioners Court oversees the administration of county government.
Subdivision regulations promulgated by the Commissioners Court govern the development of property outside the jurisdiction of the City of Fredericksburg. City Government The City of Fredericksburg is incorporated under a Home Rule Charter. The form of government provided in the charter is known as the “Council-Manager Government.” All powers of the city are vested in an elective council known as the City Council. The council consists of a Mayor and four council members, all elected at large. The Home Rule Charter provides the city broad powers to administer the operation of the city. A City Manager, appointed by the City Council, is responsible to the Council for administration of all the affairs of the City.
The following appointed boards or commissions facilitate the operation and growth of the city:
